Location: Gold reef city theme park, Johannesburg
Jozi’s favourite night adventure returns this Friday! This year’s 10km course includes 22 obstacles built for all levels of athletes, a very unique hydration station with one of Joburg’s finest craft breweries and plenty of other sneaky surprises. This inner city obstacle challenge route includes Gold Reef City, The Apartheid Museum and a Concert in town square. If you’re keen on adventures this is a must do.
Lakeside Lodge Cross Triathlon
Saturday, 17 September
Location: Lakeside Lodge, Sedgefield
This new triathlon event takes place in the Garden Route, Cape Town. Participants get to swim in the Swartvlei Lake, cycle on jeep tracks and gravel roads, and run on the SANParks Molerat hiking route.
Compendium Sunday Tribune Hill 2 Hill
Saturday, 17 September – Sunday, 18 September
Location: Worlds View/Cato Ridge – Shongweni Polo Club
This is the only one-day mountain bike marathon between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban. But that’s only on the Saturday, on Sunday there’s the 100km race from World’s View to Shongweni. For those riders up for a challenge, they can do the both events and earn a Back 2 Back silver medal. There’s also a junior eliminator races on Saturday afternoon to involve the whole family.
SASFIN Gerald Fox Memorial Half Marathon & 10km
Sunday, 18 September
Location: Johannesburg Zoo
The SASFIN Gerald Fox Memorial Run starts just outside the Joburg Zoo and ends inside. The route is a relatively tough one through tree lined roads. There’s also a 10km and 5km fun run and the organisers have organised more parking this year.
Sanlam Cape Town Marathon
Sunday, 18 September
Location: Green Point, Cape Town
One of the most anticipated marathons of this year takes place this weekend. The route is designed, not only to take in Cape Town spectacular natural beauty, but also to enable runners to traverse the City’s rich historical sites, in a running celebration of South Africa’s oldest, ‘Mother’ city. Aside from the marathon (which is a Two Oceans and Comrades Qualifier), there’s a half marathon, 22km and 12km trail runs and shorter 10km and 4.2km road runs.
