With this month being themed around the gut, we’re sharing recipes that are good for gut health, like this gut healing golden milk.
It contains two gut healing ingredients – turmeric and coconut oil. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, helps digestion and has been shown to even ease menstrual cramps. Coconut oil is one of the healthy saturated fats which contains microbial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties, which are good for repairing your gut. Look for an organic virgin and cold-pressed coconut oil. Fats are also good for fighting fatigue.
This golden milk is what I call a caffeine free, vegan bullet proof coffee; but it may not be for everyone. Turmeric, with its overpowering flavour, is an acquired taste especially when used outside of savoury foods like curries and soups.
Gut Healing Golden Milk
- 1 C light coconut milk
- 1 C filtered water
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp turmeric
- Add all ingredients to a small pot and heat over a low flame, stirring every few minutes until the mixture is fully heated up.
- Transfer the mixture to a heat proof blender and blend it. Alternatively, you can use a stick blender and blend straight in the pot. This helps fully combine the ingredients, especially the coconut oil and gives you a nice froth.
- Pour into a mug and enjoy.
