The holiday season brings a mix bag when it comes to maintaining your health in terms of exercise, nutrition and rest. Many of us have more time to do the right thing, but for that very same reason tend to fall off the wagon. This reminds me of High School where my days were packed with academics, sports, work and extracurricular activities, versus my University days which were often open to distractions and idleness. Although I had more time to focus on studying in University, I had higher marks in High School due to a full calendar of productivity.
Nevertheless, consistency can be mundane and uneventful when confronted with the allure of holiday cheer: unhealthy food, alcoholic drinks and people not on the same fitness mission. To combat the boredom of consistency and the temptation to overindulge, I suggest two key opportunities this holiday season to kick-start your 2017 healthy and to stay on your game:
-
Schedule your fun
This is your cheat meal, your day off from exercise and opportunity to let your hair down. Choose the parties and people wisely. You deserve to celebrate the end of year. Just remember, the new year is around the corner, and your current and new goals can benefit from starting in December, instead of after the New Year’s party!

Sign up for fitness challenges in 2017
It’s easy to break the monotony that comes with consistent training and healthy nutrition if your purpose goes deeper than aesthetics. Training with purpose makes ‘looking good’ the by product, not the ultimate goal. Consider Running, Cycling, Swimming or Obstacle Course Races, like the Warrior Race.
