On a recent episode of The High Low they listed new lockdown lingo. They are not the words we’re uttering constantly like lockdown and quarantine and zoom; but rather lingo to describe these unprecedented crazy times we find ourselves in. I paused the episode to jot them down, I loved them so much, which is why I am now sharing them.
I hope this list finds you well and safe at home, where you can hop onto the comments and share your favourite lockdown lingo.
Corona-coaster
The ups and downs of your mood during the pandemic. ie. you love lockdown 1 minute and are weepy the next. It is an emotional corona-coaster.
Quarantini’s
Experimental cocktails mixed from whatever random ingredients you have left in the house. It’s the boozy equivalent of a store cupboard supper. I’ve become quite fond of the quarantine. My two favorites thus far have been:
Pineapple, lime and mint juiced along with some simple syrup, rum, sparkling water and ice cubes.
Lime juice, a spot of simple syrup, some vodka, sparkling water and frozen pineapple chunks as ice cubes.
Locktail hour
Wine o clock during lockdown, creeping earlier every week.
Coronodose
An overdose of bad news from consuming too much bad news during a time of crisis.
The elephant in the zoom
The glaring issue in a video conferencing call that no one seems able to mention. Like a worryingly messy background or bad hair.
Quentin Quarantino
An attention seeker using time in lockdown to make amateur films that they are convinced are funnier and cleverer than they are.
Goutbreak
The sudden fear that you’ve consumed so much bread, wine and cheese that your ankles are swelling up.
Anti-social distancing
Using health reasons as an excuse for snubbing neighbour’s and ignoring people you find irritating.
