Location: Germiston

Hosted by the Germiston Callies, this road race is run in honour of Comrades winner Alan Robb. The 15km is relatively flat and the 32km incorporates hills.

Location: From Heidelberg to Scottburgh

This week long MTB stage race totals 900km of mountain biking and goes through 4 provinces. The 2017 race is fully booked, but you can sign up for 2018.

Emperors Palace Classic

Date: Saturday, 22 April – Sunday, 23 April

Location: Emperors Palace

Billed as “the race of dreams”, the event’s offering is stunning and includes both road riders and mountain bikers. The racing starts with the 25km and 50km MTB races on the Saturday, followed by the 48km and 98km road races the following day. There’s also a kids race.

This is a 12km and 6km fun run for health and unity. This year’s run is in honour of Ahmed Kathrada.

Creating Water Resilience

Lighthouse to Lighthouse MTB

Location: Danger Point Lighthouse, Gansbaai

This race is open to only 250 riders and totals 200km over the 2 days. The route tries to follow the trail that the old wagons used almost a century ago to supply paraffin to the lighthouses.

Compendium Sunday Tribune Hill 2 Hill

Date: Saturday, 15 April – Monday, 17 April

Location: Durban Shongweni Club, Outer West Durban

Said to be the Comrades of mountain biking, The Compendium Hill 2 Hill MTB Marathon is the only one-day mountain bike marathon between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban.

There is also a smaller MTB event as well as a trail run on the Monday.

The Hobbit Trail Runs are staged in the Mystical town of Hogsback, Eastern Cape. The events take you over some of the best trail routes in the Country, taking in magnificent indigenous forests, spectacular mountain peaks and countless waterfalls. Runs range from 5km to 90km in distance.

Buffalo Gorge 2 Day Stage Race

Location: Buffalo Gorge Eco Adventure Centre, Mpumalanga

This is a 2 day trail run stage race. There’s varying distances to choose from depending on skill levels. There’s also a kids route of 4km on day 1 and 2km on day 2.

Sabie Experience

Date: Saturday, 29 April – Monday, 1 May

Location: The Floreat Hotel Sabie, Mpumalanga

The 2017 edition of this popular MTB stage race is – “Back to Basics: – Affordable Stage Race”. With reduced entry fees and options to add extra features to your entry. There is also the addition of an 18km kids race.

Ladder Hiking Weekend

Date: Friday, 7 April – Sunday, 9 April

Location: Holhoek Guest Farm, Eastern Free State

This family friendly hike is a total of 20km split into 13km and 7km. The hike goes through the Witteberg Mountains and includes caves, ladders and ropes.

Ashburton Investments National MTB Series

Date: Saturday, 8 April – Sunday, 9 April

Location: Clarens, Free State

The mountain bike trails at Clarens consist of sand road, jeep track, huge rock-trails and single track over some of the most incredible rock landscapes in this country, including a ride on “slick rock” that is not found anywhere else in South Africa. The spectacular routes in and around the town offer picturesque views.

Oorlogskloof Trail Run

Date: Saturday, 22 April

Location: Oorlogskloof Nature Reserve, Northern Cape

Deep gorges, cliffs, cracks under the mountain, plateaus covered in stands of Cape Sugar bush and large Waboom trees, Hyracidium, as old as 400 000 years, and ancient rock art, are just some of things you can expect to see on this trail run. There’s two distances – a 42km and 16km

Sudwala Screaming Monster

Date: Saturday, 29 April

Location: Sudwala Caves, Nelspruit

The race starts at the Sudwala Lodge, begins pleasantly only to get tougher and hillier. The highlight is the screaming monster which is a formation that resides in the caves.
