Joburg City Clean Up

This clean-up will happen one week before the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN which means the city will be squeaky clean for runners to experience everything the city of Joburg has to offer.

The Lorna Jane Active Nation Day started in 2011 by founder Lorna Jane Clarkson. She wanted to create an event every year on the last Sunday of September to encourage people to move and be active. Lorna Jane South Africa hosts their own Active Nation Day Events around the country which consist of a variety of different fitness classes.

FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN

Date: Sunday, 24 September

Location: Mary Fitzgerald Square, Johannesburg

The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN celebrates the sizzling city that is the beating heart and soul of South Africa. The race starts at FNB Bank City, and goes through the streets of Joburg, passing historical sites, renewed suburbs and taking in familiar street names before finishing at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.

Location: Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, Roodepoort

This spring run goes through the lush Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. There’s a 6km 12km, 20km as well as a 2km kids trail.

MTB Skills Clinic

Date: Saturday, 16 September

Location: Dirtopia Trail Centre, Delvera Farm.

The presenter, David Hogan will cover MTB skills not only aimed at beginners, but for those riders who have been riding for some time and want to learn to be more confident on the trails. Whether you participate in Cross Country Mountain Bike Races, Gravity Enduro Races or just MTB Trail Ride for fun, he’ll provide you with training and skills at any level. Ages 12 and up.

Nine-to-Five Mountain Bike Team Relay

Date: Monday, 25 September

Location: Stellenbosch

This relay features an 8km lap that riders can ride for the full 8 hours (or not) to see how many laps they can do in the day. The route is easy enough for riders across all levels and fast laps will ensure lots of activity in the transition area. This is a very social event with friends and family supporting the riders and enjoying the facilities at this beautiful winelands venue.

2017 Darling TTU 24Hr MTB

Date: Saturday, 30 September

Location: Khwa ttu, Yzerfontein

This event is quite simple, you race as many laps as you can in 24 hours. The solo winner or team is the one with the most laps. The race starts at 10am on Saturday 30 September and finishes at 10 am on Sunday. You may start or stop whenever you want. Sleeping, eating, drinking and dancing is allowed.

Ladismith Cheese 7WEEKSPOORT MTB Challenge

Date: Saturday, 30 September

Location: Ladysmith, Oudtshoorn

This race has become synonymous with Ladismith and is now already a long standing fixture on the annual things-to-do calendar of this Karoo town. The event consists of 3 events from an easy meander through the foothills of Towerkop mountain to the more challenging ride through the iconic Seweweekspoort.

Freshpak Fitness Festival

Location: Clanwilliam

This one day fitness festival offers something for the entire family. There’s swims, duathlons, biathlons, triathlons and even kids races. There’s also plenty of food stalls and camping facilities.

Zumba4CF

Date: Saturday, 30 September

Location: West Coast Ostrich Ranch

This is an attempt to break the world record for the largest Zumba Class. At present, the record is held by the Philippines with a total of 12 975 participants. Proceeds for this go towards raising awareness and funds for Cystic Fibrosis

The Rolling M Challenge

Date: Saturday, 2 September – Sunday, 3 September

Location: Rolling M Ranch, Winterton

The Rolling M Challenge is a 2-day event, consisting of a mountain bike ride and a trail run through bushveld, along the banks of the big Tugela river and encompassing some of the famous Berg and Bush MTB routes.

In addition to the main events, there will be a 5km fun bike ride and trail run for the children, horse riding, tubing, yoga and entertainment on Saturday evening.

Location: Wild Coast Casino, Port Edward

This is not a race but a guided ride along the coastline for 40km.

Earth Dance KZN

Location: Midlands Eco Lodge

Since 1997, Earthdance has been held in over 1000 locations in 80 countries, and presented thousands of DJs and artists. The charity Earthdance KZN will be supporting, is Greenpop who to date have planted nearly 80 000 trees, in 3 countries which benefit 350 000 people.

Runtheberg

Date: Saturday, 30 September –Sunday, 1 October

Location: Drakensberg

This race is fast becoming South Africa’s top 2-day, 2-stage trail running weekend. The format for the weekend will include 2 races – the intermediate Challenge Race at +-15km per day, and the tougher Extreme Race at +-25km per day.

Eastern Cape

 

Eden Spur MTB Schools League 2017

Date: Sunday, 10 September

Location: Cairnbrogie, Plettenberg Bay

The events are held in the Cross Country Format, also referred to as XCO. The laps are approximately 2km & 3.5km long, taking the top guys 13 to 15 min per lap.

Caltex Sole Destroyer 21.1Km & Sole Teaser 9km

Date: Sunday. 17 September

Location: Eastern Province

The first half of the 21.1km route is run on dirt roads through scenic farming areas and includes several challenging hill climbs and descents. The amazing scenery, the camaraderie and the fantastic T-shirts keep many runners coming back to take on the Challenge “Don’t let it break you.”

 

There’s also the shorter 9km Sole Teaser which follows a challenging route through East London’s suburbs.

The Citizen Trail Run @ Sun City

Date: Saturday, 16 September

Location: Sun City

. This trail is a once in a lifetime experience to see Sun City as you never have before. There is a 21km, 10km and 5km route.

Pick n Pay Mathaithai Trail Run & MTB

Date: Saturday, 23 September –Sunday 24 September

Location: Phokeng, Rustenburg

The trail run takes place on Saturday and features a 5km family run, a 10km trail run and the mainstay run; the 25km Tshufi Hill Challenge. On Sunday there is an MTB which gives cyclists a choice of 4 distances; 5km, 10km, 20km and 45km, on trails and tracks through the impressive bushveld adjacent to Lebone II College.

Lalapanzi Heritage Day Bike Race

Date: Sunday, 24 September

Location: Lalapanzi Hotel

The Mountain bike Race consists of a Full Marathon of 70 km, a half Marathon of 35 km and a children’s race of 8km and a much shorter fun kiddies race. In addition to the race, there will also be a festival for the entire family.
